There is a word 'nomenclature' I wish you check the meaning of this because I need to use this word to make a reply. A university can name its course, under the guidelines by UGC. A Bachelor's degree in journalism had commonly been called Bachelor of Journalism and Mass Communication- BJMC as universities have the right to name the courses, the journalists and mass comm. got some specialisation as well as professional touch and got named by some as BA mass comm. Bachelor in Mass Communication is the Foundation Degree in India because our Schools do not have this domain as a Specialisation. Media Studies or some other related subject is just part of the curriculum of Humanities and Arts in Senior Secondary and doesn't have major role. Hence, B.A. Remains a less preferred degree for getting a job quickly.

Having said this, I must clarify that B.A. Mass Communication is a good option to make a career in Media. After all, one has to somewhere start learning where the career is to be taken. B.A. Mass Communication done from average institutions in India doesn't lead to a good career possibility UNLE
