In preliminary exam, you need to study entire subject irrespective of the branches to crack it.
Once you qualify that, you are supposed to write main exam, where you have an option to choose the subjects of your interest.
From BTech, you can only choose Civil or Mechanical or Electrical Engineering as optional subjects.
Whereas if you pursue BSc in few specialisations like Physics, Chemistry etc then you can take up the same as an optional subject.
All the best !!
