Medical Transcription (MT) means converting into written form, the dictation by the physicians and other healthcare professionals regarding patient assessment, workup, therapeutic procedures, clinical course, diagnosis, prognosis etc. in order to document patient care and facilitate healthcare services.
Medical transcriptions require good listening, language skills and knowledge of medical terms as well as knowledge of the American Association of Medical Transcription. They need to keep pace with changes in medical terminology and medical procedures as well. In the US, the entire healthcare industry is based on insurance. Thus, detailed medical records are needed to process insurance claims, given the high cost of skilled manpower there, this work is outsourced to India which has the advantage of a large English speaking, computer literate manpower. There is plenty of scope for trained, skilled and dedicated resources in this segment in India in terms of job opportunities in hospitals, KPOs, BPOs, insurance companies, medical book publishers, companies marketing medical products, clinics, etc.
