Yes, it is normal. Many people in the past have taken a drop of 6 to 10 months for CAT Preparation and have made it successfully to top IIMs. So, you are not the first one to do so. Just stay focused during the gap period, prepare well and score high. If there is a gap of one or two year between your graduation and CAT but I will suggest you that please utilize this gap, try to do something else as well with the preparations of CAT exams. It should not be a problem as long as you can justify the gap.

The business school (MBA) interviews can be like:
The interview will be a strict 30-minute, rapid-fire format. You will be interviewed by members of the MBA Admissions Board. You may have a two-on-one formal interview, where one admissions officer is actively interviewing while the other is observing. The interviewer is already familiar with your resume and has studied your entire application in depth.

Whether you choose a two-year over a one-year programme will depend in part on how radical a career changes your seeking an MBA to help you make. The larger the career change (industry and function and geography), the more valuable the summer internship offered by the two-year programme.
