DI and LR section has been the lowest scoring section in CAT. The score required for a 99 percentile in this section is around 45/46 (2018/19 CAT), while the other two sections require marks above 65. An additional 8 to 10 questions have to answered in the other two sections. Only the top 1% in the country manage to go beyond 16 questions (or four sets). Hence if you can attempt four sets in the one hour, you could land above the 40 marks (98 percentile). Choosing the right sets to solve becomes the key. There will be two easy ones which most people will do. Then it is the question of choosing two or three out the remaining six sets to attempt. Before we get into the strategy, let me talk about them separately
Data Interpretation: You got to be comfortable with linear equations, ratios, percentages and averages. Graphs (line, or pie or bar) are all just representations of data given in a tabular form. In order to get comfortable, form the table and do the questions. As you become more comfortable you will be able to do them without forming the table. Logical Reasoning: The key here is to be able to represent the given information into a form that will help you analyse further. Could be a table, or line (queue, arrangement), circle. equation or venn daigrams. Learning how to represent the given information in an analyzable form is the first challenge. Once this is mastered, the analysis can easily be mastered.
