The process is through an entrance test. You must score at least 50% to be eligible. Interview and medical tests are also to be cleared before you are selected, but it will vary from institute to institute. Ideally, you need to complete a Bachelor's degree in nautical science or marine engineering to become a merchant navy.
However, you can also gain direct admission after class 12th PCM to join as deck cadets. For direct entry as deck cadet, you must undergo a basic pre-sea training.

1. You need to first possess a student pilot license. You must be over 17 years of age and have completed class 12th with science (Physics and mathematics) with 50%.
2. Your vision in one eye must be perfect. In general medical terminology, it is called 6/6 eyesight. In the other eye, you could have an imperfection of 6/9, which must be correctable to 6/6.
3. General physical fitness is mandatory. You must be free of any disease that can hamper normal function.
4. You need to register at a flying club which is recognized by Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Government of India.

1. You can join a flying club to obtain commercial pilot license. The eligibility to become a commercial pilot is PCM in class 12th.
2. You can join Indian Air Force Flying Pilot branch by appearing in NDA, CDS examinations conducted by UPSC. IAF trains selected candidates.
