If you have a strong determination and you are a hardworking person, you will surely earn it within a year. Try to reach any good coaching institutes nearby as they provide you with good guides, mock tests, etc. Don't try to study by yourself because that won't help you to attain a good percentile.

Besides increasing your knowledge level Nallathambi you need to work on your speed of answering the questions, which you can do through mock tests. Also try to work up your logical reasoning power.

In my opinion, the time for preparation is not good enough. You have to prepare well and take much time. It will be better, if you take one year preparation for the CAT.
1. Concentrate more for weaker sections of CAT.
2. DI and Logical reason needed greater attention.
3. Quantitative and English sections are good to score well.

I dont think that coaching is important. But I seriously think that practice is very important. The more questions you solve, better are your chances of getting into IIM. If you can do that on your own. I dont think you need coaching. However if you need to bring discipline, then you can take some coaching.

Shivani,
It would be a bit early to begin preparations for CAT. Never-the-less, you should utilise this time period just in enhancing your logical & reasoning ability and in enhancing your general knowledge. But be sure that it does not hamper your present education.

There are a list of books that you'll get whenever and wherever you search for CAT preparation. The idea is not to solve everything. Qualitative study is more important.
Focus more on your weak areas and weak topics rather than trying to finish every book you come across.
Of the material I've gone through, most useful were the following
1. Quantitative ability
- TIME study material
- Quantitative Aptitude by Arun Sharma
* my recommendation won't be to solve the Complete book, rather solve time or whatever coaching material you have and the topics that you find difficult or you need more practice in solve those from this book.
- CAT 500 by

To pursue MBA from a reputed college you must prepare for MBA entrance tests like CAT, XAT etc. You must get good score in these exams. Furthermore you must improve your profile by working on extra curricular activities and projects. You must also work on improving your general knowledge to crack interviews.
