No, an LOR is a formal document which needs to have a professional and formal tone. No matter how closely you are associated with your recommender, the letter should be written factually, without any personal bias. Also, the recommender must seem interested in your admission in to the programme. The word choice and sentence structure should also be formal in an LOR.

While writing an LOR for PG Diploma, it is important to include the traits which are relevant to the intended programme. For an academic LOR, the recommender can mention about academic sincerity, research capability, perseverance, meticulous approach and other such traits related to the academic set up. For a professional LOR, leadership ability, team spirit, professionalism, work ethics, and out-of-the-box thinking can be highlighted. Despite the skills that are mentioned, it is highly important to support them with relevant instances or experiences to prove what you are stating.

Normally, two LORs are required by the universities or colleges offering PG Diploma courses. However, few universities may even ask for three LORs. Hence, it is better to check the university's admission requirements regarding letters of recommendation. Some universities even mention the number of academic and/or professional LORs needed for admission into a particular programme. You must arrange these LORs, from your recommenders, as early as possible, in order to meet the specific application deadlines.

For PG Diploma programmes, college professors should write academic LORs. When the universities require professional LORs, then immediate supervisors and managers can be great recommenders, who can provide actual evaluation of your work and capabilities. It is essential to select someone who has witnessed your work from close quarters and can provide genuine assessment of your capabilities.

It is advisable to request for an LOR at least one month before the deadline as it will help you to connect well in time with your recommender whom you may not have been touch for long. Also, your recommender may need sufficient time to write the recommendation. Getting the signed LOR on an institution letterhead may not be that easy. Thus, it is important to keep enough time in hand, and not run behind recommenders at the last hour.
