Yes, ISACA certifications do expire. These need to be renewed on a 3-year cycle by meeting the annual maintenance and education requirements listed below:

  • Complete a minimum of 20 Continuing Professional Education (CPE) hours per year (120 hours over a 3-year cycle)
  • Pay an annual certification maintenance fee
  • Report CPE activities and pay the fee by Dec 31 of each year

Note: Maintaining certification status does not require an active ISACA membership. However, it does help with discounts on training and CPE opportunities.

Students can take exams for their favoured ISACA certification without any prerequisites. However, to obtain the actual certificate, students do need to show a valid proof of work experience.

Students who pass the exam before meeting the experience requirements, generally have a 5-year window to submit verified experience.

ISACA certifications are given on a common scale of 200-800. Students need a score of 450 or higher to pass. Score of 800 is the perfect score (all questions correctly answered). Score of 200 is the lowest score possible (only some questions were answered correctly)

Note: Scoring varies for different certfications. The above is valid for CISA, CISM, AAIA, AAISM, CCOA, CRISC, CDPSE, and CGEIT certifications.

Yes, ISACA certification (like CISA and CISM) are highly valuable in India. This is true particularly for students targeting IT, Governance, and Cybersecurity Management. These are widely recognised by major Indian tech services, and can help students earn a hike of 20% to 40% in their next jobs.

A certification only costs Indian students between INR 65 K and INR 90 K. However, the post ISACA certification average salaries for students go as high as USD 151,000 and INR 1.44 Cr.

For non-members, exam fees for ISACA certification costs USD 760 (INR 72.8 K). Other additional charges can take the overall costs for Indian students between INR 65 K and INR 90 K.
