Hello Anakha, It's indeed heartening to know that you are interested in doing M.Tech after completion of your graduation in Physics. One takes 3 years after 10+2 for becoming Science graduate while it takes 4 years in engineering. Hence eligibility for GATE has been kept st M.Sc. In any Science subject. I am attaching a link that will give you all the required information about this. http://gate.iitm.ac.in/Eligible
You need to complete your M.Sc. For becoming eligible to appear for GATE. Best wishes to you.

Hello Sachin,
It is really early for you to even think of starting preparing for GATE. The syllabus of GATE is same as that for engineering and you are still in 1st semester. Right? There could many changes in exam pattern in next four years. So I would advise you strongly to concentrate on studies of your engineering and think of this exam only after three years. Best wishes to you.

Now, for the first year. Download your GATE syllabus and previous year paper for mathematics and any other subject which is there in your first year. Now, don't be tensed much. Just keep doing your college on a regular basis and keep learning the concepts, even the smallest one especially for mathematics and if any other subject you have in your first year according to GATE syllabus. Practice Maths for 1 hour daily for a whole year along with previous year questions also. After doing M.Tech you can go for research of can apply for different jobs and if you have interest in business field then you must go for MBA i.e. you must give CAT and various other management exams. The best option according to me is that you start preparing for GATE 2019 and try to get AIR rank 200.

Do the groundwork. Always read standard textbooks once during your B.Tech or after your B.Tech, before writing GATE. Prepare good quality notes. Revision is the key. Use previous years' GATE questions as practice materials. Attempt 'lots' of mock tests.

Yes, you can surely opt for teaching Maths as a career. However, with a B.Tech/M.Tech degree, you can't teach Maths to post-secondary (after class 12th) students. In order to do so, you have to pursue M.Sc. In mathematics or you can even go for Ph.D. and end up being a professor teaching engineering undergrads. There's one more option, you can go for tutoring in private coaching classes as they don't really care about your degree if you are well versed in your discipline.
