This decision will depend a lot on your interest areas & career aspirations.
CAT will get you admission into MBA and make your a techno-commercial person whereas GATE will give you an opportunity to pursue a Masters programme in engineering and further strengthen your technical skills which will help you for a career in research & academics.

Hello Aman,
Syllabus for GATE is that of graduation. Hence you cannot do much preparation in 2nd year of engineering. However, you will help yourself a great deal if you work hard for your present classes and score consistently more than 75%. This in itself is preparation for GATE.

Hello Kancharla,
Firstly and importantly, please remember that no exam is difficult. It's our preparation that matters. Secondly, for GATE syllabus is that of graduation. How will you start preparing for it in 2nd year? My advice firstly concentrates on studying for graduation. After this only prepare for GATE.

Hey there,
It entirely depends upon your choice as the three fields are entirely different from their own perspective.
If you want to carry on your study in the specialized field to get your Masters, then GATE is a good option.
If you want to join work and put to practice what you have learned, then IES would be perfect.
If you have managerial skills and want to get into management field then doing MBA would be great.

Hello Vishvajit,
GATE - graduate aptitude test in Engineering is a national level examination conducted for the admission into post graduate studies such as:
M. E/M. Tech, M.Sc etc. in the government colleges.
It would give you a chance to get admission into the IITs and other top institutions for post graduate studies.
To clear GATE, you need to have high conceptual knowledge on your B.Tech, as the questions are based on your undergraduate degree only.
Right from second year, you need to Master all the concepts. Then, you may refer the previous year papers and prepare accordingly.
Use good books for preparation.
All the best.
