A good strategical starting point would be to make the best use of this vacation period (May-July). You need to pursue B.Tech. With stream such as civil, mechanical, electronic, electrical, CS, etc. To appear for GATE exam, maximum of 2 attempts will be there for you. Most probably, M.Tech admission is based on the GATE rank for many top colleges.

Either, you should take a coaching class for GATE or you can prepare at your own level. You can buy some standard books for that and whatever you learn in the entire B.Tech, learn them purely. It will help you a lot.
All the best.

Hi there,
GATE is an exam which can obviously clear with self-study only as you are already at college level must be fully matured, also all the subjects are related to 4 years of your engineering so the only self-study will work, also be attentive during your regular classes in engineering it will help you a lot. Before exams, you can buy some test series and also you should practice some other books for GATE.
