Hi,
NITs (National Institutes of Technology) and IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology) are a bunch of engineering colleges that are well-acclaimed both nationally and internationally for their excellence in the field of education. The first 14 RECs between 1959 and 1965, which later were upgraded to NITs in 2003, were an offshoot of the then Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru's vision of making India flourish at the Global level. Whereas, the history of IITs dates back to Indias pre-independence era. At present, there is a total of 31 NITs across the nation and the number of IITs is 23.

Currently, there are approx. 4000 seats in all the 19 IIMs together. However on request by the HRD ministry, the seats will increase in the near future.

To get admission in IIM – Kanpur, you have to clear CAT exam with at least 97 percentile, and then you have to clear GD and PI round, if you get a call from there. You must have good percentage in your class 10th and 12th. The minimum percentage would be 90% and in graduation, you must have 80%.

IIMs do not offer MBA by distance learning. IIMs offer certificate courses in the field of management which are delivered through partner network in distance learning mode. You are eligible for certificate courses after B.Tech with industry experience.

There are no set correct answers to these questions. Please understand that the interviewers are veterans in interviewing and a not-so-genuine answer can be easily identified by them. Hence, the key lies in introspecting about your life and coming up with your life story that inspired you to do MBA. That would get you the answer to why MBA. Coming to short term goal and long term goal, short term goal can be to successfully graduating from top IIMs and long term can be to gain expertise in your favorite specialization (do your homework beforehand). BBA is a 3-year Degree course in management offered by any management institute. IPM course is 5-year integrated degree course offered by IIM, Indore and in 4th and 5th of course student join PGDM with students who clear CAT and join IIM Indore.

If your B.Tech degree is from a recognised university even if it's by distance learning, you are eligible to appear for CAT examination to seek admission in MBA in IIMs if you have minimum of 50% marks in B.Tech.

A score above 99 percentile to get calls from most IIMs. Even after getting calls you need to perform well in the What/PI session. They do give weightage to academic profile and your score in graduation is bit lower, so you need to perform well in PI.
