IISERs and IITs are both excellent institutions, but they have different focuses:

IISERs:
Primarily focus on fundamental Science research. It also offers a strong foundation in basic sciences like physics, chemistry, biology, and mathematics. Preparation based on the syllabus of NEET will prove helpful as a foundation especially in Biology and to some extent, Physics and Chemistry. Mathematics is included in IAT that is not part of NEET syllabus. Analytical thinking and problem solving ability will be tested through IAT, which is comparatively at a higher level than that in NEET. Therefore, while NEET preparation helps you with some subjects, you need to devote extra time for Mathematics and the different question formats of IAT.

In previous years, IISER Kolkata's closing ranks for the General category have ranged from 641 to 1801, depending on the specialisation and round of counseling. For the SC category, the closing ranks have varied between 234 and 502. Based on these trends, it is reasonable to anticipate that the cutoff marks for IISER Kolkata in IAT 2024 will be in the range of 150 to 200 for the General category and 100 to 150 for the SC category. Please note that these are approximate figures, and actual cutoffs may vary.
