The Times Higher Education Ranking 2023 ranks IIT Patna from 801 to 1000. IIT Patna is ranked 351–400 in the QS Asian University Ranking 2023. NIRF 2022 has ranked IIT Patna 33 in the Engineering category and 59 in the Overall category. For the previous three years, NIRF has placed IIT Patna as one of the top Engineering colleges under 30.

Commerce students are eligible to apply to IIT Patna's BBA (Bachelor of Business Administration) program.
