During the course of freedom struggle from 1917- 1937, India saw a huge surge in socialism among localites. Even the freedom fighters came under the influence of socialist ideologies for the betterment of society. During the same vourse of 20 years came the great economic depression (1929-33) and made a lot of socialist countries suffer because of proverty and unemployment but USSR survived the economic pandemic, because of it's socialist path.
