Companies like Hero, Tata, Mercedes, Toyota come for recruiting students of Automobile engineering.
50% of the students opting for automobile engineering go for further studies. Some students with higher gpa and other good records get placed in core companies. Many get placed in IT companies. Even many of the bright students get placed in IT. There could many reasons :

It was established in 1969 and is one of the oldest engineering branches in Manipal and has its reputation.
I can say that faculty is not 100% best, not more than 4 to 5 professors are good with their subjects. Professors are really good and are ready to help you. The course structure is pretty good and equivalent to BITS (HOD used to be from BITS).
Excellent chemical engineering laboratories - Mass Transfer, Heat Transfer and a State of the art Process Control lab. The computer lab equipped with all the engineering software - CAD, Aspen, Matlab.

Manipal Institute of Technology is known for its European culture as well as lifestyle. Almost, all the students are from the elite families get into Manipal though the institution charges a high fee but provides countless facilities and training. The same is reflected in the recruitment drives where many national and multinational corporations of India visit the institution for placement drives. Computer Science Engineering is the best engineering Branch of today in terms of education and Placements.
MIT is good Institute which provides quality education especially to CSE students.
The placements at MIT, Manipal of Computer Science Engineering is really very good. The placement ratio is almost 95% placement. Many multinational IT companies like Microsoft, Amazon, Google, etc. visit every year and take students from here.
The average package is around 12 lakhs per annum.

MIT-Manipal is well known for its vibrant academic and co-curricular scenario.
Though it charges a huge amount of fee, for undergraduates and hence provides world-class facilities.
When it comes to placements from computer science and communication engineering, they are exceptionally well and quality wise better future-oriented.
The highest salary offered in the respective stream is 23 Lacs per annum and around 10 Lacs per annum being the average from the recent years.

Yes, you can do B.Tech in Computer Science after completing Diploma in Mechanical Engineering if you have a decent grade in your Diploma studies.

Aeronautical engineering when regarding with placements is not good at Manipal University or most of the other universities in India either. You do not gain enough knowledge to work directly in a complex industry as aerospace industry. The average package for a few core companies is around 5 LPA for a fresher.

Yes, for Diploma students, we have lateral entry which allows direct admission to 2nd year. You'll find the required forms and further information about the same at the official website of Manipal University.

The total fee at Manipal University is around 4-5 lakhs. The academic fee may vary from 3-3.5 LPA while the accommodation fee depends of the choice of room and may vary from 80,000 to 1.35 lakhs which includes the caution deposit, mess fee and utilities.
