Apparently, there are numerous elite B - schools in India. Various IIMs, IIFTs, FMSs of centralized universities such as DU, BHU, etc. fall under this category. After going through your description, I would say that there is no reason for a company to not shortlist you for their placements. Provided you are able to explain your history in the best possible way. Highlight your experiences and justify it with key reasons. In the end, companies really don't care whether you have a gap of one year or so, they look for candidates that suit the companies requirements, such as knowledge, skills, attitude, etc.

Delhi University is the best college for English Honors. JNU, JMI etc. Are also good.
