As per my opinion, if you want to try for private universities, except VIT vellore there are other great options available like GGSIPU, Delhi or Pune universty colleges and various others in Pune where you will get good environment, good exposure and good study culture, good campus placements too. So, dont go for either of them neither NITs of low level nor VIT because, although I am not much aware but campus placements might not be as you expect from a government engineering college and after all culture around you matters the most, which you will get in metro-cities like Delhi or Pune. The cut-off score for ST category students is 27. Since you have not met the cut-off requirement, there are very less or no chances to get NITs, but if you can apply for counselling, try your luck. The counselling website is www.josaa.nic.in

Hi Abirami,
There are no fixed scores for any course or NIT. It depends only on the cut-off marks.
The cut-off scores are:
GENERAL (OC)-81
SC-32
ST-27
PWD-1
OBC -NCL - 49
If you he scored more than the cut off marks you can apply for counselling though www.josaa.nic.in
You should have scored more marks above your caste wise cut off marks to get good NITs. For example, if you belong to general, then, if you score 150-160 then you can get good NITs.
If you are qualified, write JEE Advanced and try to get an IIT.

You have good chances to get NITs but if you belong to general (OC) then you may or may not get good NITs like Warangal, Trichy, etc. To get good NITs, you should have scored way above your cut-off.
Fee structure for NITs is very low because they are under central government. It will be around 40000-60000 per annum.
You can apply for counselling through www.josaa.nic.in

You have a good score in CBSE boards but the JEE score depends on your caste. If you have crossed your cut off then you are qualified to write JEE Advanced and also to get NITs.
The caste wise cut off is given below:
GENERAL (OC)-81
OBC-NCL- 49
SC-32
ST- 27
PWD- 1
Verify whether you have scored above your cut off so that you may have chances to get admission in any of the nits. Try to score well in JEE Advanced, you may also get IITs.

NITs are good but not all the NITs. There are a few which top the list of NITs like Trichy, Warangal, etc. Studying there is good. But, if you don't get a seat over there then opt for private universities. Fee structure will be high but you can learn and explore a lot.
If you have cleared JEE Mains, then you try to score well in JEE Advanced.
