The subjects of the PSTET (Punjab Teacher Eligibility Test) exam depends on paper.
PSTET Paper 1 has 5 subjects- 1. Child Development and Pedagogy 2. Language-1 (Punjabi) 3. Language-2 (English) 4. Mathematics 5. Environmental Studies 
PSTET Paper 2 has 5 subjects- 1. Child Development and Pedagogy 2. Language-1 (Punjabi) 3. Language-2 (English) 4. Mathematics and Science 5. Social Studies/Social Science.

No, it is not mandatory to appear for both PSTET  Paper 1 and 2. Candidates have to choose to appear for one, depending on their desired teaching level.

  • Paper 1 is for- teach classes I to V
  • Paper 2 is for- teach classes VI to VIII

Generally the syllabus of the PSTET exam does not change frequently that is the main subject remain consistent. The syllabus is based on the topics covered in the primary and upper primary school curriculum. Minor changes can be observed at time including exam pattern, type of question, difficulty level, etc. but the overall syllabus remains the same.
