The basic eligibility for a veterinary course is 10+2 with subjects Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English with a minimum of 50% in aggregate from CBSE/ICSE/State Board or equivalent. Further, students who have appeared in 10+2 or any other intermediate level examination and are awaiting results can also apply for the program and be admitted on a provisional basis.
Admission process:
Admission to most veterinary colleges is given on the basis of results obtained in the entrance examination conducted by the concerned universities. The Veterinary Council of India conducts an All India Common Entrance examination (AICEE) for admission to first year of Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc) & Animal Husbandry (AH) degree course for filling up seats of each veterinary college of all states including colleges like Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat, Bihar Veterinary College, Patna, Birsa Agricultural University, Ranchi, Bombay Veterinary Science College, Mumbai, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Bikaner. This Entrance exam is usually held in the month of May each year.
However, there are some state level entrance exams also, through which admissions are given in the colleges of that particular state like Kerala Engineering Agricultural and Medical Entrance Test that is for the colleges of Kerala.

The aspirants who wish to become a Veterinary Doctor should have specific academic qualifications. After higher secondary education, they can go for UG programme in Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry. Moreover, they are required to pursue this course from any University recognized by the Veterinary Council of India (VCI). The duration of this course is five years. Admission to these institutes is based on the performance of candidates in national level entrance exams such as All India Pre Veterinary Test (AIPVT), and All India Common Entrance Examination (AICEE) conducted by Veterinary Council of India. Apart from this, certain colleges such as Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University and West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences conduct their own entrance exam as part of admission procedure.
