To get eligible for the entrance exam you should obtain about 60% in your board exam. Exam pattern includes physics, chemistry, maths, general knowledge, and English grammar.

B.Sc (Nautical Science) is 3 years duration program with total intake of 120 at IMU Chennai campus. All admissions to the various UG and PG programmes of the IMU and its Affiliated Institutes will be through an all-India Online Common Entrance Tests (CETs) which will be conducted in the month of June 2019.
Registration Fee is Rs. 1000 for General candidates and Rs. 700 for Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe candidates.
CET Syllabus - English, General Aptitude, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics at Plus 2 level.
For Online Registration, applicants should visit the website of the Indian Maritime University at http://www.imu.edu.in and click on the CET June 2019 hyperlink. The online registrations will be start in the month of April.
Eligibility criteria :- 10+2/ equivalent (PCM-60% and minimum of 50% marks in English subject in 10th / 12th Examination.)
Note: In case of SC/ST candidates there will be a 5% relaxation in eligibility marks; however, it will not apply to English marks.

You can't take admission in dns or B.Sc in nautical Science with 52%. You need at least 60% marks.

The latter is quite demanding as you have to stay away from the land for months on end. However, if a government job is what you want, Marine engineering can land you up in the Naval services. Apart from the lucrative salary and perks, it is a matter of pride and joy to serve the country in the waters. Aspirants can also get opportunities in marine metals and corrosion, renewable energy, remote sensing, offshore oil recovery, underwater vehicles and marine transportation. Starting off as a Fifth (junior) engineer, the promotions depends on the efficiency shown. The remuneration increases with annual promotions. However, a trainee engineer can expect around 30,000 to 40,000 per month. After gaining knowledge about the field, the salary amount is extremely lucrative. Off-shore engineers even get the status of an NRI.

B.Tech (Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering) at Visakhapatnam: 3-year Diploma in Mechanical Engineering/Civil Engineering with 60% marks from any Institute approved by AICTE will be eligible for admissions by Lateral Entry into the second year against the available vacant seats at the beginning of the second year.
