To get a seat in JNU for PG Diploma in Big Data Analytics (PGDT), candidates need to appear for the nation-wide entrance test conducted by JNU. The eligibility criteria for the programme includes M.Sc/B.Tech/B.E. in Physics/ Chemistry/ Mathematics/Computer Science/ Statistics/ Operations research/ Life Sciences/ Biotechnology/ Bioinformatics/ related disciplines in engineering, physical, and biological sciences with a minimum of 55% in the qualifying degree. The admission process involves a two-semester course with a provision of a project report to be submitted by the student at the end of the Winter Semester.

OBC (NCL) category candidates are eligible for 10% relaxation in the percentage of marks in the qualifying examination in relation to the open category.

The programme has a strong focus on Indian society, with courses on social stratification, family life and kinship, polity, economy, religion, urban life, population, education, and social change. The Centre also offers optional courses, scholarships, and a number of merit-cum-means scholarships. To qualify for the MA degree, students are required to complete a total of 16 courses, out of which 11 are compulsory, and obtain a CGPA of 4 at the end of the program.
