After completing BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery), graduates have various career opportunities and options for placements. Some of the common career paths and placements after BDS include:
1. Private Dental Practice: Many BDS graduates choose to establish their private dental practice and provide dental care services to patients. Setting up a private practice allows dentists to have independent control over their work and potentially earn a higher income.
2. Government Jobs: BDS graduates can apply for dental officer positions in government hospitals, clinics, or institutions. These positions may be available at the state or central government level and provide stable employment with benefits.
3. Dental Clinics and Hospitals: Graduates can work as dental practitioners in dental clinics, hospitals, or dental departments of healthcare facilities. They can provide dental care services, perform dental procedures, and work as part of a dental team.
4. Research and Academics: BDS graduates interested in research and academics can pursue opportunities in dental research institutions, universities, or dental colleges. They can engage in dental research, contribute to scientific publications, and teach dental students.
5. Dental Corporate Sector: Many dental equipment and product manufacturing companies hire BDS graduates for roles such as product development, sales and marketing, and clinical support. These positions may involve working with dental supplies, instruments, or technology.
6. Dental Public Health: Some BDS graduates choose to work in the field of dental public health. They can work with public health organizations, NGOs, or government agencies to promote oral health awareness, conduct oral health programs, and work towards improving oral health policies. It's important to note that the availability of specific placements may vary depending on factors such as location, experience, additional qualifications, and individual preferences. BDS graduates can also choose to pursue higher education opportunities such as MS (Master of Dental Surgery) to specialize in a particular dental field, which can open up further career opportunities and placements in specialised areas of dentistry.
