Founded in 1845 under the affiliation of the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, it is one of the oldest medical institutions of Asia. The college admits around 200 students for the undergraduate and 100 for the postgraduate medical programs annually. The medical college is situated on the campus of Sir J. Hospital and is clinically affiliated with Sir Jamsetjee Jeejebhoy Group of Hospitals. The campus is spread in an area of 44 acres and has a highly educated faculty team of 284 members. Candidates seeking admission to GMC must qualify National Eligibility Cum Entrance conducted by CBSE. Additionally, it is necessary for a candidate to score a minimum of 50% aggregate in NEET to become eligible for admission to MBBS programs. Interested students must have passed class 10+2 or equivalent examination with a minimum of 50% marks (40% in case of SC/ST candidates) in English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together.
