For reserved category students, the admission criteria for BDS at SPPGIDMS includes qualifying the National Entrance Eligibility Test (NEET) and meeting the eligibility norms set by the Government of India and the Dental Council of India.
The candidate must have completed 17 years of age at the time of admission, qualified 12th class examination with Chemistry, Biology, Physics, and English subjects, and scored a minimum of 40% marks for SC/ST/OBC category candidates.
The undergraduate training programme is of 5 years, and the student must be engaged in full-time study, participating in laboratory work, group discussions, pre-clinical exercises, and clinics with graded responsibilities.
The subjects covered include General Human Anatomy, General Human Physiology and Biochemistry, Dental Anatomy, Embryology and Oral Histology, Dental Materials, Pre-clinical Prosthodontics and Crown & Bridge, General Pathology and Microbiology, General and Dental Pharmacology and Therapeutics, and more.
The student must have a minimum of 80% attendance during each academic year to appear for university examinations.
Each subject has a maximum of 200 marks, with 100 marks for theory and 100 marks for practical/clinical.
The clinical/practical examination tests the clinical skill, performance, and competence of the candidate, while the viva voce examination assesses the depth of knowledge, logical reasoning, confidence, and communication skill of the students.
The scheme of examination includes a written examination of 3 hours duration, and the distribution of marks is as per the norms laid by the Dental Council of India and the respective university.
The internship duration is of one year, with rotations in various departments such as Oral Medicine & Radiology, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Prosthodontics, Periodontics, Conservative dentistry & Endodontics, Pedodontics, Orthodontics, Community Dentistry/Rural Services, and Oral Pathology & Microbiology.
