With 79 marks in COMEDK 2018, your rank will be around 20,000-22,000 and you can get some good colleges with this rank in Karnataka (for general category). If you are having Karnataka domicile then you will get better colleges and branch.

Hello Jeya Suriya,
It's only from last year that Tamil Nadu government shifted from common entrance exam to 12th exam as basis for admission. Hence there is not much statistical data available to predict any trend for benefit this year. On the other hand many seats were not filled up and hence all those who wanted admission got it. These facts perhaps tell us that a student will definitely get admission in one of the engineering colleges if meeting all criteria. This trend is expected to continue this year also.

You can start preparing from now. It’s better to join a good coaching institute. Also, go for weekly tests to check your progress.

Last year's rank was 5998 for general category for information Science. the cutoff this year will be around the same.

Considering you're from general category, for mechanical you have slim chance though you may get some non-core branches.

The application process must ideally start a year ahead before the intakes. Fall intake in the USA starts typically during August or September. At least, presently there is no mandatory training while doing engineering. However, AICTE is thinking of introducing this in coming years to improve employability of pass out engineers. But then, this is in future at present.

SPP colleges are converted into SDS (students direct stream) in which all the colleges in Canada are covered. But to apply, you must have 6 bands in each module or more in IELTS. If you have 5.5 in one or two modules, you are required to apply under general, in which more financial documents are needed.
