For admission in BHU for M.Sc in Geology, the only condition found that the candidate should either be B.Sc Hons in Geology or he had studied Geology as main subject for all three years in UG level. Joint Admission Test for M.Sc (JAM) is conducted in order to provide admission to candidates in post-graduate Science courses offered at Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), Indian Institute of Science (IISc), and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs) like National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs), Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology Shibpur (IIEST Shibpur), and Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology Punjab (SLIET Punjab).
I don’t think IITs offer biotechnology but you can check Shiksha’s website and use filters to see it if gives such course.

It is really up to you, and how you want to take your career forward. But, I can say, in India it’s scope is very leads nowadays.
Industry will provided a far greater financial incentive and will probably be more stable than academia.
The academic side can be unstable post-docs last 3-years, teaching posts can be temporary and to climb up the ladder you will have to move around institutes/universities.
But, you also have to remember if you work in industry you can still collaborate with institutes/universities. And try to apply for foreign institutes/ universities for better future if done Ph.D.

You can also apply in govt. departments as Scientist like UPSC, CSIR, UGC, SSC etc. You can also try for Civil Service Examination.
