Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology Allahabad is a goverment institute. It was established as one of the seventeen Regional Engineering Colleges of India in the year 1960. MNIT Allahabad is accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the University Grants Commission (UGC).

MNNIT Allahabad doesn't provide a single fixed cutoff mark for admission. They are based on percentiles or ranks in national entrance exams and these can vary slightly every year depending on factors like:
- Difficulty level
- Number of applicants
- Availability of seats
The following entrance exams are considered:
- BTech - JEE Main score
- MTech, MSc, MCA - Scores from GATE, JAM, NIMCET respectively
- MBA - Scores from national level management exams like CAT, MAT
In 2024, the cutoff percentages for some courses were as follows: Civil Engineering - 74.73%, Computer Science and Engineering - 91.54%

The seat intake for a two-year MBA course is 77 and 30 for three-year Executive MBA course. At the time of admission, seat allotment is carried out as per the seat capacity for each course.
