It depends on the type of job you land in or the kind of entrepreneur you become. However, at present, the largest number of high paying job vacancies are in IT development functions. Also, your salary will depend on the final qualification and the college or institute that you have graduated from, as also your specialization within that higher degree.
Most top performing engineers in most streams get a very good salary. Also, it depends on the country where you work. As one gains experience, the quality of experience and projects that one worked in would also determine their compensation.
But take my advice get a stream which is more liked by you and you are more interested in cause you can do better in that.
