The Indian Maritime University is a central university which is established by Government of India for imparting quality education in the maritime field. It has an All-India jurisdiction and its headquarter is in Chennai.
It has campuses at Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai, Visakhapatnam and Cochin. University conducts degree and postgraduate courses in Nautical Science, Marine Engineering, Shipbuilding and International Transportation and Logistics Management. A lot of private colleges are affiliated to IMU. IMU conducts its own entrance namely All India Common Entrance Test. You may appear for CET to pursue your merchant navy career. You have options of doing Nautical Science or Marine engineering to become a merchant navy officer.

Students shall be exposed to the historical development of wildlife management from anecdotal, observational, traditional practices to modern, scientific, and technocratic approaches used around the world. Principles of population analysis, management, protection and conservation of animals, particularly those of conservation, aesthetics, values, and protected areas are covered.
After the completion of the course, one can get the opportunity for research with national and international universities, avail internship programme(s) in universities, zoos, non-government organisations, and get exposure to wildlife areas, national parks and wildlife sanctuaries. The M.Sc in wildlife science can also help with the preparation of examinations required to join administrative forest services (IFS, SFS, etc.)
