There are 2 ways of selection-
1) Profile Based Calls - Here they call you based on your profile as CAT results are not out by that time. However, the criteria here is that you need a minimum of 85 percentile overall and a sectional of 70 percentile in all sections, else your call becomes invalid. Also, you can get a call based on the GMAT score for which the minimum percentile required is 650.
For profile based calls, SPJIMR closely observes your academics, achievements, extra-curricular activities and relevant work experience.
Now for profile based, even though the cut-off is 85 percentile for CAT, selections are possible only with a 9

Now coming to the application part. There are 2 ways of selection-

CAT does not have a predefined syllabus. CAT tests candidates general aptitude including verbal ability (English), quantitative ability (mathematics), logical reasoning and data interpretation skills. Yes, definitely if you have 50% and above, you can clear the tricky CAT as a science student. Start practicing probability and permutation combination from today from 11/12th books and online math portal. Also, download the Hindu editorial app to boost your CAT vocabulary. If you are pursuing PGDM than fees is not negotiable. For some minority like Jain and Muslims PGDM have fees concessions. If you are pursuing MMS than it depends upon your cast. Yes for admission you require to pass the entrance exam. You can apply for CET/CAT/ATMA.

Yes, you can apply for CAT 2017 while working in a bank. Coming to points for work experience, individual IIM's have their rating criteria to rate quality and quantity of your work experience. As a thumb rule, people with work experience between 2-3 year get the highest points and points awarded anything more or less than that reduces linearly. A work experience of 6 months or so will not have any significant effect on your composite score but might sway the interview towards work experience rather than academics.
