Admission process:
Reputed institutes rely on merit based admission process. Marks scored by students in 10+2 board exam and/or relevant entrance test are taken into consideration. Based on the marks scores, a merit list is formed.
Depending upon the cut-off marks, seats are allotted to deserving candidates. Some institutes are also known to conduct their own selection/entrance test.

Firstly ask yourself what kind of job you want and what kind of job you can do. Instead of running after a high salary package first know where your talent lies, focus on getting admission and perform academically very well. Yes, it is necessary to have knowledge of grad level mathematics if you're going to pursue a degree in biotech. If you're in 12th standard and if it's possible that you can still add a subject in your current curriculum then go for it.
Mathematics is compulsory for admission in government colleges, only private colleges don't have maths as a compulsory. Since you'll be opting for a biotech course (most probably a B.Tech in biotech) then you will require the knowledge of mathematics (grad level).
