I am sorry, but minimum cut-off for general category candidates or OBC candidate is 75%. Even if you belong to SC or ST Candidates, the minimum cut-off is 65%. You can apply for some private colleges, but if you only want pursue or IIT, I suggest you to go for a drop and give improvement exam of boards.

No, mathematics is not compulsory. You can also take PCB and do B.Sc. B.Sc in maths requires a thorough knowledge of mathematical concepts, but other courses or streams do not.

Less marks in class 12th (Maths) won't matter in the graduation, unless you have no interest in Maths.
If you are interested in maths, then go for engineering and other courses like BA. But, if not interested, then go for B.Sc in different streams.

Hello Pradyut,
Your board exam's percentage must be at least 75% to get NITs and IITs. As you scored only 72%, you are not eligible to get admission in any pursue. Even if your score is good in JEE Mains, you cannot get admission.

With this percentage, it is quite tough to say as many more things matter for admission. It includes your caste, category, the college in which you want to take admission, and the course you want to study.
