Hello Sahil,
The examination for becoming an IAS officer, IPS or IFS officers, you need to write UPSC exam. For this, there is no particular degree eligibility. You can do any degree and write this exam. But, it is compulsory to have a degree. Secondly, the questions are mainly from political and geographical aspect. So, you don't have to go for a single degree like B.Tech, B.Sc etc. There is one part of the exam in which you need to choose a subject of your choice. For that, you have many subjects like biology, physics, chemistry, commerce, economics etc.
So, whatever degree you may pursue you can appear for UPSC exam.

Dear Sourabh,
For civil services, you should choose that course in which you have more interest I would suggest you to do BA course because as you will do this course on the same time you can study for civil services.if you go for technical courses then you its really typical for you to study continuous with your B.Tech

First congrats on taking mechanical engineering as the optional subject. Get hold of the syllabus. Analyse previous papers to know which topics are more important. Set weekly targets to complete the topics. Use weekends well. Revise once a topic is complete. Once all this is complete give test series.
