Hi,
No it is not mandatory. A graduation degree in a relevant discipline is the minimum requirement. IAS is open to doctors, engineers, lawyers, etc.
You'll be given a choice to select optional subjects while applying for Civil Services.
You have not shared your academic details. However, there are several factors that need to be considered before choosing a particular stream after Class 12.
This is because the chosen stream would determine which path your career would take and the two main factors that should be taken into note while choosing a stream are:
Aptitude of the student
Personal Interests
Options for you-
Science Stream-

Hi,
To be eligible to sit for IAS Exam conducted by UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) every year, one needs to be:
An Indian National Citizen
A graduate in any discipline from a recognized university and
In the age limit of 21-30 years.
So the first step is to pick up graduation in a relevant discipline. If you have a strong inclination towards the prestigious subject of Economics, I would say that with a BA in Economics you can enter into different sectors like banking and finance, teaching, retail, stock and share brokering, FMCG, PR etc according to the personnel interest and attributes.
And Civil Services is one of the best options.
