It depends on what you want to become in the future: a specialist officer in government or a district collector. Both are group A central services with the same pay scale and mostly similar perks. You can prefer Indian Economic Services for the following reasons:
1. IES works as an economic specialist in government. They have good command of their domain, unlike IAS officers. They will serve in government as economic advisers, administrators, and planners.
2. You can expect monthly performance-based incentives with this service, unlike IAS.
3. IES work life is comparably balanced to that of IAS. Which has a lot of work load,

1. Assistant Commissioner of Income Tax: It is an entry-level post in Group A, for which the salary band is Rs. 15,600 to Rs. 39,100 and the grade pay is Rs. 5,400.
2. Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax: After promotion, IRS gets this post, and the salary range is Rs. 15,600 to Rs. 39,100 with a grade pay of Rs. 6,600.
3. Joint Commissioner of Income Tax: At this position, the salary band is the same, but the grade pay is Rs. 7,600.

Yes, If you are taking subjects like political Science, history, sociology. So it will help you in Mains. Other benefit is you do not need that much time to spend to focus on your course, so you can give more time to UPSC preparation.
