The University of Canterbury offers a generous number of scholarships, nearly 500 to all their international students, on all levels of study and academic college of choice. Each of the University of Canterbury scholarships for international students ahve different eligibility criteria (such subject/course, level, citizenship, age, gender, school, region, etc.) and may require different supporting documentation. Also, students are required to apply separately for scholarships at UC and they can refer to steps listed below for the same:

• Read the scholarship regulations prior to completing an application to check whether you meet the eligibility criteria;
• Answer all required sections and questions when completing your on-line scholarship application form;
• Upload all required documents in support of your application;
• Upload copies of your academic records for courses completed at all other tertiary institutions;
• Register with myUC prior to applying for a scholarship; and
• Date and sign the privacy provisions.

Note: Late applications are not accepted at the University of Canterbury, Hence, it is essential to submit scholarship applications before the closing date and time. 

At the University of Canterbury, students are required to download an application form, fill in the accurate details and submit it in order to apply to the university. While applying to the university, the students do not have to pay any money as UC does not charge any application fee. Listed below are UC's application requirements that students must fulfill while applying:

• A submission outlining the candidate's career to date, why they wish to be pursue the particular course of choice and the steps taken to investigate it as a career, including samples of work published or broadcast if available;
• Certified copy of academic records; and
• Current CV/Resume.

The University of Canterbury also conducts interviews as a part of the application process.

Note: If the candidate wishes to have the material submitted with their application returned, then they must provide a suitably sized, stamped, addressed envelope.

In order to get into the University of Canterbury's, all international postgraduate students must meet the entry requirements listed below:

• Completed online application;
• Undergraduate degree at a recognised university (or similar) in a field relevant to chosen specialisation;
• A year of postgraduate study, following an undergraduate degree (if applying for a 120 point Master’s degree);
• Grades: 60-70% (depends upon course of choice);
• Official academic transcripts; and
• English proficiency exam scores (IELTS/TOEFL/PTE).

The University of Canterbury's College of English offers an English language programme for international students who are yet to meet the university English language entry requirements. In this course, students get the exposure to specific language and study skills needed to succeed in academic study. Also, they get to learn academic reading and writing skills, academic vocabulary, skills for understanding lectures, skills for giving presentations and skills for participating in academic discussions. With the help of this program, students without ELP scores can also study in the University of Canterbury.
