Derivation of Prism Formula Class 12th

A ray of light passing through a prism ( μ = 3 )  surface minimum deviation. It is found that the angle of incidence is double the angle of refraction within the prism. Then, the angle of prism is________(in degrees).

At minimum deviation :

i = i'

r + r ' = A ⇒ r = A 2

Snell's law :

1 sin I = 3 s i n r = 3 s i n i 2

⇒ 2 c o s i 2 = 3

⇒ i = 6 0 °

i = 2 r ⇒ r = 3 0 ° ⇒ A = 6 0 °
