Engineering Placement

Production / Industrial Engineering are pretty much the same disciplines. The areas of study include production systems (batch / mass / etc. ), production planning and management, economics of production systems, optimization and simulation techniques, etc. The supporting core engineering disciplines like engineering design, machine tools, production technology, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, strength of materials, material Science, are all taught as well. Manufacturing Systems Engineering is more often a graduate level course rather than an undergraduate course which focuses on production systems and practices, and their mathematical modeling. There is far less emphasis on the supporting engineering disciplines and far more focus on understanding the determinants of efficient manufacturing in different modes of production. In addition, manufacturing processes are studied in detail - from CNC's and other precision machinery, to nanotechnology.

I am an ex-student of that college (Sudhirian, Batch of 2016, and CSE). Well, If you are there to study and learn, there is some outstanding (and I really mean it) faculty members you will get, who has in-depth knowledge over their area of expertise and amazingly friendly attitude. You can go to them like anytime and ask or discuss. They will always help you. Back then, we had some issues with availability of the books (reference) in library. I am not sure if the situation is still remain same. And, in your final year, you will not get any choice to pick your optional subject. That's something really disappointing. Technically, if you want to pick your own optional paper, you can. But, if you do so, you will be off your own. You own get a faculty with expertise in that area. Now, coming to the most important question Placement. Well, DSCSDEC don't conduct autonomous placement drive. Mostly, you will be sent to pool drives conducted in different colleges (under JIS group). Don't expect to get numerous opportunities. Competition is tough. But, you will get plenty of opportunities (Considering you have a decent marks through in your academics). Marks play a vital role in pool drives. Score as much as you can. It will help you in the end. You might get disappointed by looking at the number of participants and no. Of candidates made it through. But, Hi! If you are well-equipped then you don't need to be worry about it. You will get fair amount of chance. Good luck.

There's one thing I can absolutely say about mechanical engineering after practicing for almost 10 years now and getting licensed as a PE. It's needed now more than ever, and especially those that can build and work with their hands. It's true everything has a computer on it these days, but it really is becoming a lost art to understand how to take ideas and turn them into real objects that solve problems and that's exactly what MS can do.
Things like working with sheet metal, how to design parts for injection molding, what type of welding will be adequate for an assembly. It doesn't mean that you can ignore coding and electronics, these are also vital to success these days. All said and done if I could do it all over again, I would definitely choose to be a ME over anything else.
