My review of NIT Silchar.
Placements: Placements are good and many of the students are placed in well-reputed companies and have a good package as well. There is a placement cell which helps students prepare for interviews, guides them to build a professional resume, and brings good companies to the campus. Almost 90 percent of the eligible students are placed and working in very reputed Companies. Companies include Genpact, TCS, Mahindra, Infosys, Wipro, Deloitte, Amazon, etc., visit the campus. Packages vary from 1.5 LPA to 8 LPA and the highest package is 18 LPA- 28 LPA, depending upon students' experience and their knowledge.
Infrastructure: Hostel is pretty good. They provide rooms as well as food. The rooms are good, and the food provided is better than what we pay for it. No one has ever complained about anything bad till now. So it is good and the hostel environment is enjoyable and very secure with CCTV cameras all over the hostel.
Faculty: Our faculty are very much involved in teaching and they have deep knowledge in their subjects. They also guide us in manufacturing our project. Many of our college faculty have also done the research on their teaching subject and also have Ph.D. Degree and were well experienced in their respective fields and were very friendly, always ready to help students and clear our doubts whenever asked. A semester examination system is followed where we have an end-semester exam and in between we have mid-semester exams also. There is a 50-mark practical exam test in the college and a viva is conducted. Course curriculum is good and they offered us to understand the topics in detail. The course is updated from time to time. It covered all the required topics that should be in our courses and are needed according to the current scenario of a changing environment.

NIT Silchar has been the best 4-year experience more than what I expected before joining.
Placements: The previous academic year had very impactful results in placements as well as in the internship rate for the CSE department. Referring to the Training & Placement brochure, the placement rate was 84% for my department, which also disclosed the following. The highest package was 60 LPA, the lowest package was 3 LPA, and the average package was 15–19 LPA. Current recruiting partners are Microsoft, Amazon, Goldman Sachs, AWS, Cisco, Deloitte, Accenture, Commvault, HP, Infosys, ICICI Bank, ZS Associates, HPCL, Flipkart, Adobe, Google, and Reliance Industries. However, roles are not disclosed by the PIC department itself. Many students have done internships at CTTC, Infosys, Indian Railways, OpenAI, DRDO, Microsoft, Tech Mahindra, IBM, and ISRO, as well as in different ministries of India.
Infrastructure: The campus has a very calm and soothing environment. It has a huge campus, modern buildings, gathering areas, playgrounds, and both boys' and girls' hostels with necessary facilities. There is 300 Mbps Wi-Fi access within the campus and a large library with more than 700 academic books related to the CSE department. There are different labs like the ML lab, Computer Organisation lab, Network lab, and Linux lab with the latest Windows computer systems. Although there are no specific medical facilities built inside the campus, a hospital is accessible if anything happens within the campus. It is a very beautiful experience during the rain on campus, as there are many green trees. Gym, reading room, mess, common room, and indoor games facilities are available in every hostel.
Faculty: I need not tell you about faculty and exams, as you all know the answers well. However, the course curriculum and extracurricular activities matter in the end. The course structure is geared up with Computer Vision, which helps image analysis, processing, and recognition. NLP, LLM architecture, Theory of Computation, which explains how machines work with data, SQL, and data visualization. This helps in dealing with and handling large amounts of data, cloud computing with cybersecurity, and computer networks, which explain how communication takes place over the internet. These fundamentals provide a clear vision of computer systems. However, you can join any online courses introduced by IITs.
Other: If you are enquiring about fees, they are almost the same for all NITs. It is accessible through the internet. I chose NIT Silchar only for its atmosphere, location, and obviously, placement. Everything is perfectly fine. All clubs are properly managed with coordination. You only have to join the institute and actively contribute towards improving the institution's name. They also participate in competitions, scholarships, organize coding competitions in collaboration with platforms like HackerRank and GeeksforGeeks, and build a network by visiting top IITs. Such extracurricular activities may help you in placements and getting other scholarship recommendations. You can volunteer in events, fests, institute website management, and placement activities.

I suggest pursuing this course from this institute.
Placements: Very few students were placed from this institute. The highest package offered was 15 LPA, and the average package was 10 LPA. The top recruiting companies were Deloitte, Apple, Google, Accenture, etc. Most of the students from our institute got internship opportunities. The major roles offered were Financial Advisory and Market Analysis.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure was green and beautiful. The whole campus was spread across 15 acres. The building blocks were properly designed. Each classroom had high-tech teaching facilities. The entire campus was Wi-Fi enabled. Hostel facilities included food, a gym, and Wi-Fi connectivity.
Faculty: All teachers were highly qualified and very supportive. Their teaching skills were great. They easily explained every topic. The curriculum was relevant and helped students become industry-ready. They always helped students solve their problems. The exams conducted were easy to pass.

Beautiful college with good faculty, nice people of Assam, zero ragging, and good sports facilities.
Placements: I don't have an idea about how many students get placed, but it is more than 85 percent in electrical engineering, as they go to the core sector and the non-core sector. I do not have an idea about the highest and the lowest packages. Top recruiting companies for our course are Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Infosys, and Cognizant. I do not have an idea about internships. My course students become electrical engineers, and if they go to non-core sectors, then they can become software engineers.
Infrastructure: Usually, our phone's internet will not work as well as it does in a Tier 1 city. It provides LAN, which has high-speed, so we can enjoy the internet. Classrooms are okay. It has Asia's largest library. Labs are good. Food is good, as we get both vegetarian and non-vegetarian canteens, so we can enjoy. Medical facilities are available in a hospital. There is a SAC building with a badminton court, so we can learn. To play table tennis, we can go to the sports complex. There are very good sports facilities.
Faculty: Mostly, teachers are very helpful and very good. They are very qualified, and most of them teach very well. The course curriculum is relevant, and it makes students industry-ready. Semester exams are tough to moderate, but as students come after clearing the JEE exam, they mostly pass. Only a few students fail. The pass percentage is more than 95 percent.
Other: I got this course through my JEE rank. The placement should be increased. Tecnoesis and Incandescent are the two best fests organised here. Day-to-day activities always happen here. It also conducts mini activities like Garba night. Advay and Aaveg are clubs that organise dance competitions and movie nights.

My review about this college.
Placements: There is a placement cell which invites a lot of companies and firms for job opportunities. There are also opportunities for those who are willing to be an entrepreneur because students and the college also organize many times of hands-on workshops, research projects, and internships, as well as eminent scientists and professors talk to encourage students. So many companies come to recruit people. Internship fairs are organized by the placement cell of our college, and they recruit students from all courses. Packages vary from company to company, maximum being 12 LPA, and minimum 4 LPA.
Infrastructure: Hostel infrastructure is different for different hostels. There are 9 hostels for boys in this college and 3 hostels for girls. Mess and canteens are present in every college and have a quite amount of seats, so every student can sit here at one time and eat. Bathrooms are present in sufficient amount. You don't need to take tension for infrastructure.
Faculty: Faculty members are highly educated and experienced as well. There are a lot of senior faculty members. Junior faculty members have also joined in recent times. We like the teaching of some and don't like the teaching of some others, just like any other college. They are always there to clear any type of your doubt. They also motivate every student to do well. They are also carrying out their research work. Many have bagged prestigious awards for their research works. Exams are semester based, two semesters per year. Examination fees are also to be submitted online. The exams were taught also. The course curriculum is good in this college. We study different subjects every semester. We almost cover every part of Physics in the whole course. Practicals are the part we are even more serious about. We love that.

Fees are lower compared to other NITs.
Placements: Placement of our college is really amazing as compared to all the NITs in India. As this year is 2025, the highest placement stood at 96 LPA from the mechanical engineering department, which is really a great thing. Also, the average placement of our college is 13 LPA, which is really good.
Infrastructure: I really loved the playgrounds, as these are huge, and also the inter-branch competition, which is held every year, is very exciting. The hostel facilities are quite good. The mess food is average but adjustable. There is 24/7 internet, no issue with that. The bathroom is well furnished, and housekeeping is really good. They come every morning and clean the staff. Classrooms are spacious and digitally updated. The library is good, and it is open for 24 hours. There are many grounds for different sports.
Faculty: The faculty members are very cooperative. Professors can speak fluent English, so there are no language barriers among students and faculty. They are well educated and well disciplined. The course curriculum is one of the best in the world, as there are many things that other colleges don't implement, but our college does. The world-class course curriculum is the reason for the success of many students who have studied here.

A:

The core tuition fee does not change based on your engineering branch. A student in Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) pays the exact same base tuition fee (INR 62,500 per semester) as a student in Civil or Mechanical Engineering. Variation in total costs is completely dictated by:

  • Hostel Allocations: Minor fluctuations in dynamic electricity billing or infrastructure choices across different campus hostels.

  • Mess Balances: Actual food consumption costs adjusted semester-wise through the Board of Hostel Management (BHM) accounts.

Q:   Is it possible to cancel my admission online and reverse my NIT Silchar fees?
A:

Here are the scenarios -

  • During JoSAA/CSAB/CCMT Counselling: Yes, you can exit online via the unified portal before the final round finishes. Your seat acceptance fee will be reversed to your account by the counselling board after a minimal processing deduction of INR 1,500 to INR 5,000.

  • After Final Allotment & College Reporting: No, you cannot get an automatic reversal online. Under the strict "No Refund Policy" established by the Senate Committee on Academic Affairs (SCSA), if a candidate fails to physically report or cancels their seat after the final allocation rounds conclude, no institutional fees will be refunded to prevent empty seats throughout the batch duration. Only the refundable security caution deposits are paid back upon clearance.

Q:   What happens to my NIT Silchar fees if I make a double payment by mistake?
A:

The duplicate transaction amount will be refunded to your account. You must submit a formal application along with both payment receipts, bank statements showing the deductions, and your account details to the Faculty I/C (Accounts) or Academic Section of NIT Silchar. The institute verifies the transaction ledger with State Bank of India (SBI Collect) before processing the reversal. The settlement process typically takes 15 to 30 working days.
