A cinematographer is the more modest sounding use of the term Director of Photography. DP in North America, DOP is the British version. Cinematographer may also refer to an individual with a camera, whereas, Director of Photography implies multi-camera and a larger crew.

I would suggest you go for a short term course first and then decide whether it interests you or not. The best thing would be not leaving engineering in a jiffy as changing careers can sometimes lead to a bad choice.

There are many ways to go in the film industry like take audition of some random TV serial. You can also go for the audition of Roadies as the winner gets a chance to host a show on MTV.

To pursue a career in art direction in TV production, it would be great if you try to get into institute like FTII, as that would be the right place for you. MBA in mass communication will not surely lead you to a career in the same.
