The ideal process to choose your GMAT test date is as follows:
- Learn how much time you need to prepare for the GMAT test.
- Check the deadline of your graduate business school where you are seeking admission. Moreover, you need to have sufficient time to prepare your application documents such as an SOP, admissions essays, etc.
- Take the GMAT test at least 6 months prior to the application (B-school) deadline
- Schedule your GMAT test online or via phone
Make sure to keep the timeline in such a way that if you have to give the GMAT test again then you have time to prepare and take the GMAT test.

Applicants who wish to attempt GMAT once more, can go for it. However, applicants must remeber that GMAT if taken online or at a test center, cannot exceed attempts in a year. Plus, in a lifetime, only eight attempts are allowed per applicant. This is applicable across all versions and editions of the GMAT exam.
So if the applicants have taken three attempts on GMAT Xth edition can go for five more attempts on GMAT XIth edition (or the latest GMAT Focus Edition). Get more details at GMAT Retake Strategy Steps
