Yes, just like other defense entry exams, the Army TES has physical requirements. These are listed below:
1. The minimum required height is 157.5 cm.
2. There is a 5 cm relaxation for Gorkha, Garhwal, Northeast, and Kumaon candidates.
3. The chest should be well developed with minimum expansion after full inspiration must be 5 cm.
4. The weight must be proportional to height and age.
5. The candidates must be free from diseases like piles. There are other vision, hearing, teeth, etc. Requirements as stated on the official website of the Indian Army. To avoid problems later on, you can check all the requirements and get medically tested before the actual medical test.

To get selected for Army TES, you need to score well in 12th grade and clear JEE Mains. These two stages will last about a year if you passed JEE Mains in your first attempt immediately after 12th grade exams. Following which, you need to apply online for TES with your scores. You will receive a call for a SSB interview and medical exam based on your application. You need at least three months of practice to get ready for this stage. It is not a six-month process like other defense exams. You will be called for SSB on the designated board as soon as the applications are shortlisted. The SSB interview lasts for five days, with various tests to determine suitability for the army taking place each day. As a result, it will take you at least two or three months to prepare for the SSB and one year to achieve the required 60% on the JEE Main and 12th grade exams.

No, you cannot join the Army TES via the NCC. The NCC entry is different from TES, and it is a short-service commission unlike TES, which entitles officers to permanent commissions. To join TES, you need to appear in the JEE Mains and have more than 60% in the 12th grade. Also, you must have taken Physics Chemistry and math in the 12th grade. Based on your application, you will be directly called for SSB. The NCC entry officers are also called for SSB directly, but they get SSC in various units. The TES is for technical entry in engineering-related army units. Hence, you need to apply for NCC special entry with your NCC Certificate but you are not eligible for TES with your NCC Certificate alone.

The Technical Entry Scheme in the Army is for officer-level posts in technical units. To get into the army through this route, you need to appear in the JEE Main. You need to have passed the 12th grade with a 60% score in the PCM subjects. The Army TES does not have a separate written test, and you will be directly called for SSB based on your application. If you are recommended by the board, you will receive one year of training at OTA Gaya and then be sent to the respective Army Engineering College. In this scheme, you must complete one year of post-commissioning training. The officers are awarded engineering degrees in this TES. Also, they work in the technical units of the Army. The ranks are equivalent to any other army officer rank based on post. Further, TES officers are nominated for the M.Tech course after some years of service.

Both are gateways to becoming an officer in the Indian Army. One of the primary distinctions between the two is that NDA officers work across multiple units, whereas TES officers only work in the technical unit. The Army TES is different from the NDA in the following ways:
1. You can apply to NDA irrespective of your 12th-grade stream, whereas for TES you need the PCM stream.
2. Your 12th grade score does not matter in NDA entry, but for TES, you need to have a score of 60% in PCM.
3. To get NDA entry in the Army, you need to clear a written test of 900 marks before SSB, whereas for TES, you can directly appear for SSB.
4. Upon completion of training, NDA officers are awarded a B.A. or B.Sc. degree, whereas TES officers are awarded an engineering degree.
5. The NDA officers are trained in Khadakwasla and then in IMA, whereas the TES officers are trained in OTA, Gaya, and then in their respective colleges.
6. You will not get any technical allowance as an NDA officer, whereas as a TES officer, you can get around Rs. 10,000 per month.
