Government & Defence Entrance Exam

The WBCS is conducted by the West Bengal state government to recruit for four group services in the state. You can get the following positions after clearing this exam: (a) Group "A" posts that you might get are as follows:
1. Deputy collector WBCS Executive)
2. Assistant Commissioner of Revenue in WBRS
3. Co-operative Service
4 Labour Service
5. Food and Supplies Service
6. Employment Service
The grade pay of these post is 5,400 and pay band is 15,600-42,000 (b) The Group "B" post that you might get is in the West Bengal Police Service. This post's grade pay and pay band are comparable to those of group "A" services. (c) Following are the Group "C" posts that you might get after clearing the WBSC.
1. Superintendent
2. District Correctional Home / Deputy Superintendent
3. Central Correctional Home
The pay for these positions is comparable to that of Group A, but for the remaining eight positions, it ranges from 9,000 to 40,500. These posts are:

5. Deputy Assistant Director of Consumer Affairs and Fair Business Practices
6. Junior Social Welfare Service
7. Subordinate Land Revenue Service
8. Assistant Commercial Tax Officer

There are also some Group D posts, such as the following:
1. Inspector of Co-operative Societies

The Indian Revenue Service officers are recruited through the UPSC exam for Group A gazette posts. The monthly salary of an IRS officer varies as per position and is as follows:
1. Assistant Commissioner of Income Tax: It is an entry-level post in Group A, for which the salary band is Rs. 15,600 to Rs. 39,100 and the grade pay is Rs. 5,400.
2. Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax: After promotion, IRS gets this post, and the salary range is Rs. 15,600 to Rs. 39,100 with a grade pay of Rs. 6,600.
3. Joint Commissioner of Income Tax: At this position, the salary band is the same, but the grade pay is Rs. 7,600.
4. Additional Commissioner of Income Tax: For this position, both the grade pays and the salary band increase. The salary band is Rs. 37,400 to Rs. 67,000, and the grade pay is Rs. 8,700.
5. Commissioner of Income Tax: The pay band remains the same, but the grade pays increase to Rs. 10,000. In the IRS, this is the final increment in grade pay.
6. Principal Commissioner of Income Tax and, after promotion, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax: For both posts, the salary band is the same at Rs. 75,500 to Rs. 80,000.
7. Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax: At this position, the salary is fixed at Rs. 80,000 with the same grade pay.

The Union Public Service Commission conducts multiple exams for the recruitment of Group "A" positions in central government. You can get the following grade-A positions through UPSC:
1. Indian Engineering Services IES through the UPSC IES exam
2. Indian Economic Service and Indian Statistical Service through UPSC
3. Combined Medical Services through UPSC CMS
4. Officers in the Indian Army, Air Force, and Navy via the UPSC CDS exam
5. Three All India services; IAS IPS and IFoS through UPSC CSE
6. There are around 17 Group A civil services, including IFS and IRS, which also recruit through the CSE exam.
7. Central Armed Police Force Service (ACs) through the UPSC CAPF exam.
