Ability to work in Moderately hot environment for longer duration ( for kitchen ). Ability to lift heavy weight in quantity food production kitchen. Everyone will advise you to join IHM stands for Institute of Hotel Management. IHMs are Government colleges. In my opinion they are overrated by students and industry. I have spoken to many students from IHM - Mumbai and found out that colleges are best but they are lacking in providing same quality of education when compared to Private institutes. This my personal opinion I don't want to disrespect any college but this is what I think after talking to many people. Now read this carefully Before joining any institute make sure you are really interested in this field. I think this is most tough industry to work in. Long shifts and low salaries make it worse. Many people quit. If you are not interested in work you will also quit. Many people quit the course even before their industrial training, and some quit after training. This industry is not for people who don't have vision for future. This is the reality of glamorous industry. It is not at all glamourous if you ask someone who is already working in the industry. At the beginning of the course everyone wants to become a chef, bartender or want to work on cruiseship but at the end only 25% of the people who wanted to become a chef end up taking Food Production as specialisation. This is same with each kind of people I mentioned above. Choose wisely. Ask yourself Why you should do it? See what skills are required to be in this industry to be more specific skills required to work in department that interests you more. Do you have those skills? If yes then welcome in the service industry if not then start building yourself, nobody is perfect if you are willing to take challenges, learn new things then you will be the best in whatever you choose.
