Research methodology is introduced both as a formal course ( Research Methods) and as a part of projects in many programs at IILM. Research and academic writing are evaluated through various components such as research reports, term papers, literature reviews, case analyses, dissertations (for honors or final year), and academic presentations.

Grading rubrics consider clarity of thought, depth of analysis, use of academic sources, proper citation, logical structure, and originality.
