Hello Nishar Ahmed, Indian Law Institute located in New Delhi and National Law University which is also located in Delhi are major institutes importing teaching of different courses of law. The former is deemed to be university in the government domain where as the latter is in the private domain and is supported by different state governments where these are located to the extent they can but of course not fully. Result of this, fees of NLU are invariably higher than those charged by ILI. The fees for LLM in ILI are INR 92000.00 while in NLU, a student (non hosteler) needs to pay INR 1,39,000.00 Similarly for doctoral studies first year fees at ILI is INR 37,000.00 for first year, while in NLU it is INR 1,50,000.00

Thus it can be seen that the difference is substantial in one case and not so substantial in other case, but it definitely is higher in NLU.

Hello Nishar Ahmed, a very interesting query indeed. Unfortunately there is an answer and there is a confusion. Let me explain. Indian Law Institute located in New Delhi in front of the supreme court premises, is a very specialised Institute which conducts post graduate courses of the label of certificate post graduate degree and also doctoral studies, all related to law. Out of these courses the certificate courses do not until any entrance test. Admission is based purely on the marks obtained in the graduation examination. However for 1 year duration LLM available under multiple streams and also for giving admission for a doctoral programs this Institute conducts an all India common admission test. Institute talks of cutoffs only as an eligibility condition for students who want to appear for this entrance test or those who want to enroll for certificate courses. This condition is that the student must obtain 50% marks in the graduation examination. There are no cut off marks prescribed for passing of the common entrance test. However based on the number of vacancy is in different categories of students the institute calls these students to Delhi for an interview or viva voce. Combination of the marks obtained in the entrance test and this interview then determines the merit of the students and based on this merit list admissions are given. Hello Nishar Ahmed, Indian Law institute in Delhi conducts common admission test for giving admissions just to the one year postgraduate course in law called LLM. The minimum cut off marks declared by ili for students to be eligible to appear for this entrance examination is 50% aggregate in Bachelor of law examination. Based on the marks obtained in this examination and the number of seats available across different categories of students, the institute calls a certain number of students for viva voce or interview. The institute does not announce any cut off marks in the entrance examination that the conduct. However the weightage for different categories of questions in this examination is decided by the institute just prayer to the announcement of the dates of this examination. This is then informed to the students by email and also published on the institute's web page. Based on the combined marks of entrance exam and viva was the final merit list is prepared and based on this merit list the admissions are given for LLM.

Indian Law Institute of New Delhi is a very prestigious Institute of Delhi that was inaugurated way back in 1957 by the then President of India Dr Rajendra Prasad. This Institute offers various programs like certificate, Diploma and degrees after graduation. For this, it conducts an entrance exam called ILICAT or common admission test of the Indian Law Institute. The test is conducted across India and anyone can appear for it. The only restriction is that the prospective candidates or the students who want to study here must have scored at least 50% marks in their graduation law examination. There is no restriction as to how much of marks the student has scored previously in his or her Class 12. So a student who has scored 70% of marks in the examination of Class 12 can think of seeking admission for a PG Diploma course here, provided she/he has scored more than 50% marks in her/his graduation.

For this the institute conducts an examination called ILI common admission test at national level. Based on the performance in this examination the candidates are selected for admission. Of course the candidate must have secured at least 50% aggregate marks in his Bachelor of law degree program. The cutoffs for this examination for various categories of students for the examination of the previous years is available on some of the websites. LLM is a postgraduate degree in legal studies or law. One can pursue this after completion of his Bachelor of Law or LLB. Hello Nishar Ahmed, as part of reforms in the teaching of law, many National Law Universities were set up. One in each state. The concerned state government funds these universities and hence their fees etc. are very minimal. However, these have made a name for themselves in a very short period. As a result of this, many top-notch recruiters come to these NLUs during placements season. As far as the situation in Delhi is concerned, NLU, Delhi placements often fetch higher median salary as compared with Indian Law Institute, a much older establishment. For example, in case of LLM students, median salary is about INR 6LPA in ILS while it's about INR 10LPA in case of NLU Delhi. A similar situation can be observed in the case of law graduation students also. So if you want to join an institution where during placements, students get higher median salary, you must join NLU Delhi.

Hello Nishar Ahmed, Indian Law Institute located in New Delhi is a premier teaching Institute of law and has quite good reputation amongst employers as well as academicians. This school has a well oiled placement cell. This cell educates passing out students as to how to face the recruiters during placement season. They also try to conduct some mock interviews also to help the students community. A large number of recruiters also converge on this Institute during the placements season. All this has resulted in increase of the median placements salary that the students have obtained over a period of time, from 2020 to 2022. It has increased from just under rupees 5 LPA to just under rupees 6 LPA. Now it has attained the status of deemed to be university and hence awards it's own degrees. It's more famous for research oriented curriculum for almost all the courses. This Institute offers 1 year duration LLM. The total intake for this course is restricted to just about 39 seats. The total tuition fees for the year works out to be about ?1.4 lakh. The only eligibility criteria it has is that the student must secure at least 50% marks in the graduation examination. For seeking entry in this course there is no entrance examination but the seats are filled up only based on merit of the candidate.
