Library Assistants provide clerical support for Library staff and students or customer service to patrons. Most libraries prefer to hire workers with a GED or high school Diploma, although libraries also hire HSS (high school students) for these positions. Library assistants receive most of their training on the job. Generally, no formal postsecondary training is expected. Familiarity with computers is helpful.
