Hi,
Be a brilliant student, not only academics but an all rounder. Show your skills in innovative work, projects, extracurricular activities etc. Try to be unique. The will be thousands of applicants probably having a stronger profile tha you so prepare with careful work. For admission purpose take SAT or ACT. You did not say what you want to study hence assuming you are applying for Bachelor's.

For which course? If you are applying for UG programs the specific criteria depends from faculty to faculty. But, overall you must be a highly academic student with extremely good grades, 85% and above is preferred. In addition you must have a high SAT or ACT score. Not only must you be good in academics you must also demonstrate all-round skills, extracurricular activities are quite important. MIT is among the most competitive universities in the world and you have to compete with some of the most the strongest applicants.

Good question Arnav, see there is no straight answer to this. Every individual has his strong and weak points you have to be distinct on your own. Since MIT is the other name of innovation that is one area you should focus on. Outstanding project is a must. Physics has wide scope for this. Write in journals, get hold of top notch professors and work with them. Broaden your perspective, see how you can apply physics and where. Apart from academic does a good amount of community work and engage in your hobbies. Applying to MIT does not mean you should keep studying 24 hours. Be an all-rounder.
