The thing that sets MIT apart is that they don't accept students merely based on one exam. * An applicant's performance on standardized tests such as the Graduate Record Examination GRE TOFEL, and IELTS is an important criterion for admission. A few MIT management programs accept GMAT scores. TOEFL/IELTS may be waived by a few departments for applicants from English-speaking universities. Thank you.

Admissions to engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu are primarily reserved for those having "nativity". However I am sure if seats remain vacant then Management's of the private colleges will force government to allow admissions to out of state students also. Hi Sadha, there are need-based scholarships from MIT, MIT is just few of the US universities to offer need-based scholarships to its students. They do not offer merit based funds. For students with family incomes under $90,000 a year, a full scholarship aid is possible from MIT.
